When you think Volkswagen, think Sharks

Volkswagen is teaming up with Discovery Channel to sponsor its annual Shark Week, the third year the automaker has done so. Shark Week kicks off on Sunday, August 10 for a week-long bevvy of shows featuring sharks and shark-related stuff.

Last year, VW featured a 2013 Beetle Convertible Shark Cage and commercials surrounding that featured vehicle and Shark Week stars. This year, Volkswagen plans to showcase the 2015 Golf TDI, this time with videos featuring the cast of the popular Discovery series Dude, You’re Screwed. Several shark-themed on-air spots will feature the Golf TDI and the show’s cast.

Volkswagen is also sponsoring vignettes and sneak peaks for other shark-centric programming, showing now in the lead-in to Shark Week.

“With last year’s SHARK WEEK turning out to be the most watched ever, Volkswagen is thrilled to continue working with this beloved television event that shows no signs of slowing,” said Vinay Shahani, Vice President, Brand Marketing, Volkswagen of America, Inc. in a statement. “SHARK WEEK is an incredible opportunity for Volkswagen to introduce millions of consumers to the Golf TDI through an event that speaks to VW’s famed, bold marketing style.”
