Jay Leno looks at the 1972 Cutlass Banshee, a purpose-built offroad racer commissioned and raced by James Garner, the famous actor from the Rockford Files and other shows who died last year, leaving a legacy of automotive racing behind. Neighbors with Steve McQueen, Garner and McQueen often competed in a jovial way on and off the track.
The car is now owned by Jon Swift, whose father bought the car thirty years ago. The family still races the car, with Jon’s son Jr. now piloting the Banshee off the road.
