Your Old Banger Can Still Make You Some Cash

Think your car is very much past its best? That might be the case, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to make any extra cash out of it. Sure, it might not command the same value as a similar second-hand car in a better condition would, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t worth anything. Here are some ways you might be able to get a few extra dollars out of it.

Sell Working Cars

You have two options when it comes to selling really old cars as they are: you can sell to a specialist company that offers cars for cash or sell to an individual. Most of the time, it will be easiest to sell to a company as they will take cars in most states and conditions. However, and individual will want a car that is still very much in good, working condition. If you aren’t sure how much you should ask for your vehicle, it’s a good idea to take it to a mechanic so that they can value it for you. They can also take a look at it and carry out any work that could increase its value slightly.

Sell For Parts

Just because your car doesn’t go anymore doesn’t mean that none of it is salvageable! You might be able to take it to bits and sell the working parts. If you don’t really know how to take off the bits that you need to sell, you could always ask a mechanic to do this for you. In fact, some people who want to buy the parts might even be willing to take the auto as it is and take it apart themselves. So, it’s a good idea to mention in the advert that you’d rather sell it whole.

Sell For Scrap Metal

If the car is completely kaput, you might not even be able to sell it for parts. Thankfully, you can always make some money out of the materials and sell it for scrap metal. You can usually do this at most salvage yards or dumps. When you are looking for somewhere to sell your scrap metal to, you just need to make sure that you find a scrap yard that has all the necessary certificates and licenses so that you know they are legitimate.

Flip It

If you are quite good with car mechanics and know your way around a toolbox, you might want to have a go at flipping the car. This is when you give the car a makeover to improve its condition. In most cases, this will really increase the overall value. You might need to replace the seating and give it a totally new paint job, but you will be surprised at how much money you can make by doing this. Just make sure that your skills are up to scratch before you begin!

You can always make a bit of spare cash from your car – even if it is an old banger.
