This is one of the more informative and retro of Jay’s recent episodes from Jay Leno’s Garage. In this one, he shows us the very beautiful and historic 1925 Doble E-20 steam car. This car was originally owned by Howard Hughes.
Jay walks us through how the steam generator and engine work, the interesting piston and gearing system the car has, and explains why this steam engine produces only 100-something horsepower, but over 1,000 pound feet of torque.
