Charge for free in a Tesla with its Superchargers

Tesla has announced that after January 1, new Tesla models sold will no longer come with free access to the company’s supercharger network. The global network includes about 4,600 charging stations and all Tesla models sold until January 1 (for delivery by April 1, 2017) will continue to include free Supercharger Network access.

After January 1, 2017, however, the network will require payment for each use. Tesla did not detail how payments would be made or what the pricing structure would be, but did say that access costs will be regional based on the price of electricity. They vowed never to make the Supercharger Network a profit center for the company.

Tesla’s change in policy was announced on their blog.
