Common reasons to fail car inspection

Many states have safety and/or smog inspections that vehicles are required to pass on a regular basis in order to qualify for legal registration to operate on the state’s roadways. Some states require both safety and emissions inspections and do so annually while others require only a safety or only an emissions inspection and may only require them every few years. Some states have no requirements at all.

Whatever the law is where you live, it’s a good idea to do safety inspections on your vehicle on a regular basis. If you are required to pass a safety inspection to register your vehicle, here are some of the more common reasons for failure and how you can avoid them.
