2026 Toyota RAV4 Arrives This Winter

The 2026 RAV4 marks a meaningful evolution for the mainstream model.

The all-new sixth generation of the Toyota RAV4 is here, and it’s arriving this winter. With over 6.4 million RAV4s sold in the U.S. since its 1996 launch, this is a major milestone for a model that has long defined the compact SUV segment. Toyota is rolling out this updated RAV4 lineup in three distinct design styles, offering only electrified powertrains (hybrid or plug-in hybrid) and new technologies to elevate comfort, performance and connectivity.

What’s New — The Highlights

Full electrified lineup

  • For the 2026 model year, the RAV4 drops the conventional gas-only engine option and comes exclusively as a hybrid (HEV) or plug-in hybrid (PHEV).
  • Hybrid models yield up to an estimated 44 MPG combined for the front-wheel-drive version.
  • The PHEV boasts up to a 52-mile estimated all-electric driving range and a net combined output of 324 horsepower — up 23 % on electric-range and 22 hp on output versus its predecessor.

Three design personalities
Toyota splits the RAV4 into three styling categories:

  • Core (LE, XLE Premium, Limited) for everyday utility.
  • Rugged with the new Woodland grade, built for off-road or outdoorsy use.
  • Sport design (SE, XSE, and the first-ever GR SPORT) for performance-minded buyers.

Performance & handling upgrades

  • Built on the TNGA-K platform, the unibody structure has been reinforced to improve rigidity, reduce noise and vibration, and enhance ride comfort.
  • The 2026 RAV4 introduces an electronically controlled brake system, Vehicle Braking Posture Control, and Cooperative Steering Driving Force Control to improve handling and cornering feel.
  • Ground clearance is tailored to the variant: e.g., 8.5 in for Woodland, 7.5 in for GR SPORT.

Technology & interior enhancements

  • A new 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is standard, and select grades get a head-up display.
  • The multimedia system is upgraded: 5G onboard connectivity, faster voice assistant (“Hey Toyota”), wireless Apple CarPlay® & Android Auto™, a dual-Bluetooth setup, and even a built-in Drive Recorder that records exterior camera footage.
  • Safety: All models get Toyota’s latest suite, Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 (TSS 4.0), which features enhanced detection and driver-assist capabilities.

Trim Highlights

  • Woodland (Rugged Grade): Standard AWD, all-terrain tires, tow hitch receiver, and exclusive rugged styling touches. HEV or PHEV available.
  • GR SPORT (Performance Grade): First time for the RAV4. Built in partnership with Toyota’s GAZOO Racing team, features sport suspension, aerodynamic aids, 20-inch performance wheels and the 324 hp PHEV powertrain.
  • Core Grades: LE, XLE Premium, Limited — all HEV by default, choice of FWD or AWD depending on grade, refined and feature rich.

Availability & Pricing

  • Hybrid (HEV) models are expected to begin arriving at U.S. dealerships in December 2025, with starting MSRP in the low $30,000s for the FWD Hybrid.
  • Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) models are expected in spring 2026.

The 2026 RAV4 marks a meaningful evolution for a mainstream model that drives a large volume of sales for Toyota. By shifting entirely to electrified powertrains, enhancing performance, increasing efficiency, and injecting fresh styling and technology, Toyota is positioning the RAV4 to stay competitive in a rapidly electrifying SUV market. For buyers in Cheyenne (and similar markets with cold winters and some off-road or outdoor use), the rugged Woodland and the performance GR SPORT become interesting new choices. Especially with AWD and improved chassis and insulation for comfort and noise reduction.
