New 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE: Modern Intelligence Meets Commanding Performance

The 2027 GLE reinforces its role as the backbone of the Mercedes-Benz SUV lineup.

Mercedes-Benz is doubling down on its core midsize luxury SUV with the refreshed 2027 GLE, bringing a sharper design, deeper tech integration, and a broader electrified powertrain lineup. This isn’t a ground-up redesign, but it’s far more than a mild facelift—it’s a meaningful evolution of one of the brand’s best-selling models.

The 2027 GLE leans heavily into Mercedes’ modern design language, emphasizing its identity with star-pattern lighting signatures and a more expressive grille. Up front, new headlights incorporate the brand’s three-pointed star motif, while the grille itself features a repeating star pattern and optional illumination for added presence at night.

Around back, redesigned taillights continue the theme, tying the SUV visually to newer models in the lineup. The overall look is cleaner, more digital, and unmistakably Mercedes. Especially after dark.

Inside, the biggest transformation comes from technology. The GLE now adopts the brand’s full-width MBUX Superscreen, a glass panel housing three displays for the driver, infotainment, and front passenger.

Underneath that hardware is Mercedes’ new MB.OS operating system, enabling over-the-air updates and a next-gen AI assistant capable of handling more natural, multi-step interactions. Google Maps integration and augmented-reality navigation further enhance usability, projecting directions directly onto the real-world view ahead.

Despite the digital focus, Mercedes has kept some physical controls, like steering wheel inputs, to balance usability with the tech-heavy interface.

Powertrains: From Efficient to Electrified Muscle

The 2027 GLE lineup spans a wide range of performance options, all paired with standard all-wheel drive:

  • GLE 350: 2.0L turbo four-cylinder with mild hybrid assist (255 hp)
  • GLE 450: Turbocharged inline-six with improved torque (375 hp)
  • GLE 580: Updated twin-turbo V8 with a flat-plane crank (530 hp)
  • GLE 500e (PHEV): Plug-in hybrid inline-six (429 hp)
  • AMG GLE 53 Hybrid: Performance-focused plug-in hybrid (577 hp)

The shift toward electrification is clear, especially with the AMG 53 adopting a plug-in hybrid setup for the first time in the U.S., blending performance with improved efficiency.

Mercedes has also expanded the GLE’s advanced driver assistance suite. A network of cameras, radar, and ultrasonic sensors supports features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and optional semi-autonomous driving functions through MB Drive Assist Pro.

Beyond safety, the GLE retains its practical edge with up to 7,700 pounds of towing capacity and an optional third row, keeping it competitive as a family-ready luxury SUV.

The 2027 GLE reinforces its role as the backbone of the Mercedes-Benz SUV lineup. With more than 3,000 updated components, it blends incremental refinement with meaningful upgrades in tech and electrification.

The result is a vehicle that feels more like a rolling tech platform than ever–yet still delivers the comfort, versatility, and performance expected from a Mercedes-Benz SUV.
