Four Tips for Organizing Your Garage

Do you use your garage as a workshop for woodworking or other DIY projects? Or, maybe you use your garage for extra storage space. Regardless of how you use your garage, keeping it organized makes it a much more pleasant place to be. So, here are four tips that can help you organize your garage.

Hang Your Bicycles on the Wall

One bicycle doesn’t take up much space in a garage. But, if you have several bicycles, they can really take over the room. The solution is to install heavy duty bicycle storage hooks on one garage wall. You can hang your bicycle up by one wheel or its middle section, so it is off the ground allowing you more space. Plus, whenever you want to ride, you’ll know right where to find your bike.

Label Your Containers

Labeling containers can be time-consuming, but it’s a very helpful thing to do. Get some clear, plastic boxes for your nails, screws, washers, nuts and other small items. Print the name of each item on a white label and stick it onto its proper container. So, you’ll know where everything is at a glance. Garage storage cabinet systems are much neater inside when you use a collection of small plastic containers.

Put Plastic Bins in Garage Loft

If you have large plastic bins full of pool toys, sports equipment and more, store them in the loft near the ceiling of your garage. This keeps them off the floor, but still within reach if you want to search a box for any particular item. Be sure each plastic storage bin has a lid with a secure fit.

Use a Pegboard for Tool Storage

A pegboard is a familiar sight in many residential garages. These are perfect for organizing tools used in workshops or for DIY projects. Hang your wrenches, hammer, pliers and even your drill on the specially designed hooks or pegs. If you’re doing a project, this will make it easy to find exactly what you want to use.

Lastly, putting the proper lighting in your garage can help you to keep things organized. Some people use portable lights while others install more permanent ones. In addition to helping you see, more lighting gives you the chance to show off your organized garage!
