Lexus Unveils Battery-Electric Sports Car Concept: the LFA

The LFA is aiming for the essence of a “true sports car,” but reimagined for the EV era.

The Lexus LFA Concept is a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) sports car concept that premiered globally at an event in Woven City, Japan. This concept is developed in parallel with GR GT and GR GT3 (from Toyota Gazoo Racing), and shares many of their core engineering philosophies — particularly around chassis, structure, and “driving feel.”

The LFA Concept embodies a principle called “Shikinen Sengu,” a cultural metaphor referencing the ritual of periodically rebuilding a shrine, meaning that the car is meant to preserve and pass on automotive craftsmanship, techniques, and spirit. But evolve them for the modern, electrified era.

With BEV underpinnings, Lexus aims to show that electric sports cars can deliver true performance + driving pleasure + refined design, not just practicality or efficiency.

The LFA Concept uses a light, high-rigidity all-aluminum body frame (same as GR GT/GR GT3), maintaining structural integrity while optimizing for dynamic driving. Key engineering goals include a low center of gravity, light weight + high rigidity, and strong aerodynamic performance. Classic supercar ideals reinterpreted for EV tech.

The exterior styling evokes the sculptural beauty and timeless proportions associated with the original Lexus LFA, with a long nose-to-rear silhouette and a classic two-seat coupe layout, emphasizing purity of form.

Lexus describes the driving experience as “Discover Immersion,” designed to bring about deep driver–car unity and a sense of purity and engagement behind the wheel, even with EV powertrain architecture.

The cockpit is minimalist and driver-focused: functional controls are concentrated around the driver’s seat, with a steering wheel and control layout optimized for intuitive, seamless operation to avoid distractions. Emphasis is on feel, connection, and driving pleasure, rather than infotainment or non-essential complexity.

The LFA is aiming for the essence of a “true sports car,” but reimagined for the EV era.
