Mercedes-Benz is ushering in a new era for its van lineup with the debut of the all-electric VLE, a premium multi-purpose vehicle designed to combine limousine comfort with the practicality of a people-mover. The model marks the first vehicle built on the company’s VAN.EA (Van Electric Architecture), a dedicated platform that will underpin the brand’s future medium- and large-size electric vans.
Positioned as a “grand limousine” of the van segment, the VLE blends luxury driving dynamics with the versatility of an MPV, offering seating for up to eight passengers and flexible interior configurations aimed at families, executive transport services, and leisure travel.
The VLE’s debut introduces Mercedes-Benz’s modular VAN.EA architecture, which is designed to support a wide range of electric vans—from family transporters to luxury shuttle vehicles. The platform allows Mercedes to clearly separate its premium passenger vans from commercial transport models while enabling a scalable lineup of future EVs.
Key expected features include:
- Up to eight-seat configurations for flexible passenger use
- Single- or dual-motor powertrains with outputs potentially approaching 470 hp
- Battery options around 90–120 kWh
- Range of roughly 500 km (WLTP) or more depending on configuration
- 800-volt electrical architecture enabling ultra-fast DC charging up to roughly 350 kW
The architecture also supports technologies such as rear-wheel steering, over-the-air software updates, and advanced driver-assistance systems.
Designed for Luxury and Flexibility
Mercedes says the VLE aims to bring together the comfort of a luxury sedan with the interior flexibility of a modern MPV. The vehicle will be offered in multiple variants, including family-focused people movers and VIP shuttle configurations designed for high-end transport services.
The VLE will also form part of a broader premium van strategy, sitting alongside an even more luxurious VLS model that pushes the segment further toward S-Class-level luxury.
Pre-series production of the VLE has already begun at Mercedes-Benz’s Vitoria plant in Spain, with the facility upgraded to support the new electric architecture ahead of full production.
The VLE represents the beginning of Mercedes-Benz’s next phase of electrification in the van segment, replacing the EQV and paving the way for a new lineup of luxury and commercial electric vans built on the VAN.EA platform.
