How Ford got the Mustang on top of the Empire State Building.. again

Fifty years ago, when it debuted the new Mustang for the first time, Ford did a stunt that would be remembered by the world. They placed the new Mustang on top of the Empire State Building so that visitors could see it and helicopters could film it.

Now, fifty years later, to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Mustang’s entrance into the pony car arena, Ford is recreating that moment with a 2014 Mustang. Now atop the Empire State Building in New York, the process of getting it up there was not as simple as many might assume.

This video explains how they created a Mustang that could be easily disassembled and re-assembled in just a few hours and that would, piece-by-piece, fit into the elevator that rides from the bottom to the top floor of the Empire State Building.

Watch as the process of cutting and re-building the car is explained and then see a fast-motion view of how the car comes back together as Ford engineers practice in mockup before the real deal.
