HRC Introduces “Formula R” High-Performance Engine Oil for Enthusiasts

Honda is introducing.. motor oil at SEMA 2025.

HRC is entering a new product space. On October 30, 2025, Honda Racing announced the debut of “Formula R,” a full-synthetic engine oil line inspired by racing and developed for use by everyday drivers of Honda and Acura vehicles.

The oil line will make its global public introduction at the 2025 SEMA Show (November 4-7 in Las Vegas) and will then become available to consumers via Honda and Acura dealerships beginning in spring 2026.

Details & Features

  • The Formula R oil was developed in partnership with Phillips 66 Lubricants — a longtime partner of Honda’s racing programs.
  • It will be offered in six viscosity grades to cover a broad range of applications, including both street-use and track-use scenarios. The grades mentioned are: 0W-16, 0W-20, 0W-40, 5W-20, 5W-30, 10W-30. (The 0W-40 grade is highlighted as the same formulation used in a championship race car.)
  • Performance claims: The oil is engineered for “unmatched thermal stability, wear protection and turbocharged engine performance,” carrying “the DNA of motorsport innovation.”
  • Compliance and compatibility: The oil is designed to meet or exceed API SP and GF-7A standards and is fully compatible with Honda and Acura service programs.
  • Use case & target audience: While developed with racing pedigree, the oil is aimed at both high-performance street models (for example, the Civic Type R, Integra Type S) and general enthusiasts who want elevated lubrication performance.

Honda Is Pushing Motor Oil?

  • It signals that Honda’s performance/racing arm is moving beyond just race cars and parts into more direct consumer-products territory — helping blur the line between track-derived technology and everyday ownership.
  • For Honda/Acura owners, it presents an option that explicitly ties to the brand’s motorsport heritage — which may be appealing to those who want to maintain or upgrade their vehicle with performance-oriented consumables.
  • The availability of multiple viscosity grades suggests HRC is positioning this oil line for a broad set of vehicles and driving conditions (not just ultra–high end race cars).
  • Launching at SEMA underscores the aftermarket/performance-enthusiast focus of the product, which is relevant for owners, tuners, and racing hobbyists.
  • From a marketing/branding perspective it helps enhance the “racing DNA” of Honda/Acura vehicles and builds the perception of authenticity for performance-minded buyers.
