At Boxerfest 2026 in York, Pennsylvania, Subaru of America unveiled two limited-production anniversary models for the 2027 model year: the Subaru WRX GD25 and Subaru BRZ ZC15. The names aren’t random collections of letters and numbers, either. They pay tribute to the chassis codes associated with the WRX and BRZ when the two sports cars first arrived in the United States.
The WRX has been terrorizing tires and delighting rally fans in America for 25 years, while the BRZ celebrates 15 years of offering rear-wheel-drive sports-car fun without requiring the buyer to sell a kidney.
Both anniversary editions add enthusiast-oriented equipment, distinctive colors and a healthy dose of Subaru’s performance heritage.
WRX GD25: 25 Years of Rally Attitude
The 2027 Subaru WRX GD25 celebrates the first-generation WRX that came to America in 2002. That car carried the “GD” chassis designation, although today’s GD25 has considerably more performance hardware than the early U.S.-market WRX could have dreamed of.
For starters, every GD25 is painted World Rally Blue. Because apparently there are some traditions that simply shouldn’t be messed with.
The blue body rides on gold-painted 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza S007 high-performance tires. Behind those wheels are upgraded Brembo brakes with matching gold-painted calipers.
And then there’s the wing.
The GD25 gets a dry-carbon-fiber swan-neck rear wing supplied by Subaru Tecnica International. It is the same basic component used on Travis Pastrana’s WRX ARA25L rally car, giving the anniversary edition a direct visual connection to Subaru’s competition efforts.
It’s probably more wing than most owners will ever need. That’s also kind of the point.
Under the hood, a flexible strut tower bar adds rigidity, while the suspension receives stiffer springs and revised damping calibration. Combined with the high-performance Bridgestone tires, Subaru says the setup is intended to provide more composed and confident cornering.
Power comes from the familiar 2.4-liter turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine, producing 271 horsepower. Power reaches all four wheels through Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.
But perhaps the most important specification is the transmission.
The WRX GD25 comes exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, fitted with an STI short shifter.
Inside, the anniversary treatment continues with performance-design Recaro seats featuring black Ultrasuede inserts and red accent stitching. An STI shift knob completes the enthusiast makeover.
Only 350 examples of the WRX GD25 will be built, and all of them will be World Rally Blue. Subaru says the limited-edition WRX will arrive in summer 2027, with pricing and additional specifications coming closer to launch.
BRZ ZC15 Brings Back the Bronze
If the WRX GD25 is the loud kid at the rally stage, the 2027 Subaru BRZ ZC15 is the one sitting quietly in the corner waiting for somebody to hand over the keys.
The ZC15 celebrates the first-generation BRZ, which arrived in America in 2012 and used the “ZC” chassis designation. Unlike the WRX, the BRZ is rear-wheel drive, naturally aspirated and considerably more interested in carving corners than launching itself through mud.
The ZC15 gets its own exclusive color combination: Ceramic White paint with matte bronze wheels, red-painted Brembo brake calipers and unique bronze decals near the side sills. The combination is an homage to the 2020 BRZ tS, which used a similar white-and-bronze theme.
A black decklid spoiler gives the BRZ a little extra attitude, while a flexible V-bar under the hood adds additional chassis rigidity.
Underneath it all is the BRZ’s 2.4-liter SUBARU BOXER engine, producing 228 horsepower. And, once again, Subaru has made the correct enthusiast decision by specifying a six-speed manual transmission as the only gearbox.
Inside, the ZC15 gets black leather-appointed upholstery with Bordeaux red inserts that aren’t available elsewhere in the BRZ lineup. A unique “ZC15” anniversary plaque sits near the STI aluminum-and-leather short shifter.
Subaru will build just 300 BRZ ZC15s, with the special edition scheduled to arrive in early 2027.
