Now There are 917 – Porsche 918 Spyder Burns To the Ground in Canada

We bow our heads and give a moment of silence to remember the Porsche 918 Spyder which burned to a bare husk of its former beauty this weekend. The car, owned by Canadian investor and television show judge Michael Wekerle, was imported into Canada on September 3 for a mere $900,000 U.S.

On Sunday, Wekerle was filling the tank of the rare super-hybrid at an Esso station near Toronto when a gas spill touched the hot exhaust of the Porsche 918 Spyder and the car became engulfed in flames.

Luckily no one was hurt, but the beautiful German rendition of awesomeness was destroyed.

Porsche will only build 918 of the rare hybrid supercar, so as of now, there are only 917 of these beautifully-engineered Porsche 918 Spyder beauties left. We will not torture you with video of the burning car. Instead, here is what it looked like in its prime before it was taken from us far too early.
