Genesis Magma Racing has revealed its first full-scale GMR-001 Hypercar, a striking endurance racing prototype engineered for the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and IMSA SportsCar Championship, with its debut scheduled for 2026 and 2027, respectively. The unveiling took place ahead of the 2025 New York International Auto Show.
Key Highlights:
- Design & Philosophy:
The GMR-001 Hypercar blends Genesis’ “Athletic Elegance” with raw racing functionality. Designed in Europe under Luc Donckerwolke, the car features a bold Parabolic Line, Genesis’ Two-Line lighting, and aerodynamic sculpting for performance and aesthetics. - Hybrid Powertrain:
Developed with motorsport specialist ORECA, the car features a high-performance hybrid powertrain, although technical specifications remain undisclosed. - Korean-Inspired Livery:
The livery and race suits highlight Korean heritage, with a Magma orange to deep red gradient, Hangul script, and visual elements that evoke heat, motion, and pride. - Elite Driver Lineup:
Led by team principal Cyril Abiteboul, the roster includes endurance legends André Lotterer and Pipo Derani, bringing world-class experience to the new team. - Early Success:
Genesis has already scored a win at the 4 Hours of Barcelona in the 2025 European Le Mans Series with its LMP2 entry, supported by IDEC Sport and featuring Jamie Chadwick, Mathys Jaubert, and Daniel Juncadella. - Trajectory Program:
A driver development initiative underpins the team’s future, helping groom talent for Genesis’ WEC and IMSA campaigns.
The Vision:
Genesis sees the GMR-001 not just as a race car but as a testbed for innovation, bringing lessons in thermal management, hybrid performance, and durability directly to its high-performance Magma sub-brand road cars.
The GMR-001 will be on public display starting April 18, 2025, at the New York International Auto Show.
