Nissan hopes for Instagram followers at NY Auto Show

It seems everyone is jumping on Instagram nowadays and automakers are no exception.  Nissan announced the introduction of their new Instagram account at the 2013 New York Auto Show today in the hopes of gaining new Instagram followers to the company’s official Instagram channel.

Jose Munoz, Nissan’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, is helping with the launch of the new channel by giving Nissan Instagram followers the chance to see behind-the-scenes pictures from the Nissan debuts during the NY Auto Show at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

If you are a one of the many users of Instagram users can follow Nissan here.  Muñoz will post photos with the hashtag #NissanNYIAS if you were wondering.  Obviously after the show Nissan will continue to try to engage with their Instagram followers by providing unique content related to the Nissan brand and it’s vehicles.

“Hundreds of users are sharing photos of Nissan vehicles on Instagram every day, and with the increasingly visual nature of social media, we only expect these numbers to grow,” said Erich Marx, Director, Interactive & Social Media Marketing, Nissan North America. “As a brand, we want to have a presence wherever consumers are talking about our products.”  Can’t disagree with Erich about pictures, people love seeing them on social media networks.

As I am writing this Nissan currently has 114 Instagram followers on their channel and only 6 pictures   I assume as the NY Auto Show continues they will be adding more pictures and content to the Instagram channel and should be gaining more Instagram followers quickly.

Nissan has been successful across social media channels and networks.  Nissan currently has over 5.5 million Facebook fans, 2.1 million fans on Google+, and over 100,000 Twitter followers.  Nissan’s total Youtube channel views is over 9 million and they have over 12,000+ subscribers.   Nissan might need help cracking Pinterest though as they have a relatively small 1,324 followers on there.   Nissan probably hopes they will have more success with gaining Instagram followers I assume.

JD Power & Associates named Nissan a leading automotive brand in social media marketing recently.  Of course social media and gaining followers can be a tricky business.
